Balancing consumer costs with growing demand - from anticipated new data center applications, increased electrification, and extreme weather - are driving these changes in many of the markets in North America. Developing the best strategies to plan for and pay for this evolution is critical. This discussion will include topics on planning for grid evolution, resource selection and limiting costs for evolving grids. Low cost resource mixes often include renewable resources paired with storage resources, which can also introduce challenges in the planning and operational space. As penetrations of this mix of resources increase, longer duration storage resources become necessary, which also could introduce opportunities for new technologies to provide these services.
