Landowner
Renewable Energy Farmers of America (REFA)
Wayne Greier is a 6th generation farmer from Ohio that grows corn, soybeans, wheat and hay.
He and his family raise beef cattle, goats and sheep. They own land that has been in their family
since before the 1860s. He has been farming the land with his wife and children for his entire
life. Their children are very proud to be 7th generation farmers! He is heavily involved in finding
ways to save his own family farm due to some financial setbacks following his longtime illness
after battling COVID-19. With the current state of the economy and low grain markets, Wayne is
very dedicated to helping other farmers keep their land as well.
Wayne is passionate about renewable energy because he feels that Ohio and the United States
need to work to be more energy independent. He feels that anything we can do to increase our
energy production is a step in the right direction. He also feels that is a wonderful way to dual
use the property and save the family farm. He feels that agrivoltaics can be the future of farming
by working with solar developers to raise sheep or other livestock all while farming in and
around the panels. It is important to save the family farm to prevent the land from being bought
by commercial developers, corporate farms or even by other countries.
Wayne believes in property rights and feels that landowners have taken the risk to own land and
should have their rights taken seriously. He holds true to his core conservative values of energy
independence, limited government and protecting the lives and property of ordinary people.
Wayne and his family have been in contract with a Solar developer since the middle of 2021.
They have a queue number for PJM and are awaiting the impact studies to be completed. In the
fall of 2021, Ohio passed SB52 which has now given the local county commissioners the ability
to ban large-scale wind and solar in their county. In the fall of 2023, the commissioners voted to
ban large-scale wind and solar in the 2 townships in which Wayne’s family contracted land to be
developed into a solar farm. His family has been met with death threats, personal attacks,
negative press (TV & written) and they were forced to pull their kids out of public school for a
few weeks around the time of the public hearings because students and parents were causing
an interruption in their ability to learn while in the school.
Wayne sits on the board of PRO (Property Rights Ohio), he is a head 4-H advisor for Growing
Traditions 4-H Club and an active member of Greenford Christian Church. In the past, he has
served on the Mahoning Farm Bureau board, he and his wife were chairs of the Ohio Farm
Bureau’s Young Ag Professionals Committee and he has been a member of the local fire
department for 20 years as a Level II firefighter and EMT. He was president of the Beaver
Township Fireman’s Association and was a lieutenant for 2 years
